Active Knox sets safe streets discussion

Active Knox is hosting a public discussion on Thursday, May 23, focused on “Building Safer Streets – Together.”

The panelists are:

  • Christopher Cherry, a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee, who will discuss tactical urbanism and other innovative approaches to changing how streets function
  • Tanisha Fitzgerald-Baker, College & Career Access team leader for Project GRAD and president of Five Points Up, who will talk about the intersection of the built environment and access to healthy foods
  • Bryan William Hill, certified community planner and Vision Zero chair for Bike Walk Knoxville’s Advisory Committee, who will share information about Vision Zero, a new approach to traffic safety

The discussion will be moderated by Kristy Altman, former chair of the Knox County Community Health Council and current director of marketing at Medic Regional Blood Center.

Doors open at 5:30 and the event begins at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at Pellissippi State – Magnolia Campus, 1610 E. Magnolia Ave., Knoxville. Event registration is here.
