Kitty stood at the overlook and just smiled. Rock Sprite does that when a place like Zion gets to her. After all, it’s all about the rocks.

Across the canyon, left to right, south to north, were Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. A Methodist minister, Frederick Vining Fisher, named them in 1916 with two local boys. They were so taken by Zion they reached for the old names. Abraham is the tallest at 6,890 feet. The names have held for over a century.

Along the Emerald Pools Trail, where the cliffs come down to the water photo by Thomas Mabry)

Earlier this day on the Emerald Pools Trail, the water held the cliffs upside down. Badger photographed a scene that was nothing fancy, just the concordance of cottonwoods, red rock and a brief moment of quiet –  the marvelous canyon caught doing what it famously does.

Kitty was overjoyed with the entire experience. A more exhaustive tale of our day in Zion is forthcoming but Badger knows there are places you don’t really have to explain. All you need to do is stand there and look up.
