Former Knox County commissioner Mike Brown has died at age 86. He was out chopping wood on his land on August 7, 2026, when he passed. “He didn’t like to be told what to do,” said a friend.
On the commission for 10 years, Mr. Brown was outspoken in advocating for South Knox County. And he was generally a good neighbor. He was a cofounder and officer of South-Doyle Neighborhood Homeowners Association. He was also a founding member of the South Knox Business Association. He served on the Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Beer Board, Metropolitan Drug Commission, and the boards of Young Williams Animal Center and Ijams Nature Center. He was an officer of the Three Rivers Republican Club.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Stock Creek Baptist Church, 8106 Martin Mill Pike, Knoxville with an interment to follow.
