Okay, I admit it, I don’t do well with change. Rocky Top, TN, will always be Lake City, TN, to me. Regardless of the town’s name, we have found an interesting little restaurant that we hope they don’t change.

The Whistle Stop Café was recommended to us by a shop owner when we asked about her lunch plans. She described it as fast and clean, with lots of choices and prices reasonable enough that you could eat there several times a week without wrecking your budget.

We found The Whistle Stop Café at 523 N. Main St.in the friendly town of Rocky Top (aka Lake City). It was busy, but our wait was short. The menu listed mouth-watering item after item.

Dining Duo One chose the Pizza Bar. Several varieties of pizza were on the bar, each one looking fresh and hot. Hoping no one was counting, DD One tried four different pizzas. All were delicious.

Dining Duo Two chose the pulled pork sandwich with fries. It was a smart choice. Our meal was eaten in almost total silence as we would barely stop chewing long enough to take a breath, much less talk.

The Whistle Stop has downhome favorites like pinto beans and cornbread, and specials like Taco Tuesday and Catfish Friday. Keep checking for “Special specials” in the summer, as “Frog Leg Friday” is not a night you want to miss!

The Whistle Stop Café is kid- and handicapped-friendly, clean, and reasonably priced. They definitely live up to their motto, “We love cooking for you.”

The Whistle Stop Café is open Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and closed Saturday and Sunday.

Dining Duo is looking for the “hidden gem eateries “where the locals fill the breakfast and lunch hour; those local haunts tucked into the out-of-the-way or right on the way places missed in the hustle and bustle of the day. Please email us your recommendations at knoxtndiningduo@gmail.com.
