Competing in a panel challenge, Amara Wright and Ellery McPherson advanced for a chance to compete at the Ron Clark Amazing Shake in Atlanta.
The Ambassadors scored the highest in their skills to communicate, shake hands, handle delicate situations and think on their feet. The goal of the ambassador program at Dogwood Elementary is to uncover and develop the leadership potential that lies within students so that they can grow to be productive, independent, self-sustaining members of our community.
The Ambassadors attend weekly classes led by officials from the school and community, where they learn and practice a variety of communication skills. Throughout the year, the students compete in challenges where they are judged on their ability to apply the skills in real-world situations. They receive scores and feedback to help them improve from challenge to challenge.
The weeks of practice culminate in one large competition, where students showcase their skills in a series of challenges that require them to interact with members of the community in order to solve real-world problems.
In addition, the Dogwood Ambassadors provide leadership to the school by greeting guests, leading school tours, providing positive role models for other students in the building and acting as the “face” of Dogwood Elementary.
