Services held for longtime pastor

Services were held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, for Dr. Michel Sean Edgar Caldwell, pastor of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church for 28 years (1994 until his death on Feb. 14, 2022). Dr. Caldwell will be laid to rest in Spartanburg, South Carolina. His full obituary is here.

Pastor Caldwell was born March 27, 1961, in Orleans, France. He attended high school in Fairbanks, Alaska, and graduated from the University of Alaska-Anchorage in 1987 with a with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He received a master of divinity degree, graduating with honors from the Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, Georgia. He took courses in pursuit of his doctorate from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree during the commencement service of New Freedom Bible College in Bellevue, Illinois, in 2004.

Dr. Caldwell has served as adjunct professor of religion at Tusculum College, graduate studies and director of campus ministries, and adjunct professor of New and Old Testament studies at Knoxville College.

He is the former president of the Knoxville Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (2003-05), member of CAC Community Leadership Class (2005-06) and vice president of the Knoxville District Congress of Christian Education.

Dr. Caldwell was recently elected vice president of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Education Convention Inc.
