  • Nashville is one of 20 finalists for Amazon’s second headquarters (first is in Seattle). Jeff Bezos released the cities and their deals today in the Washington Post (which he also owns). Tennessee committed $7.7 million in incentives, compared with Austin, Texas, offering $269 million. Everything’s bigger in Texas.
  • Knoxville Chamber will host new member orientation Tuesday, Jan. 23, Chamber office; 4-6 p.m.; and its Regional Legislative Agenda Breakfast, Friday, Jan. 26, 7:30-9 a.m., Embassy Suites Knoxville West.
  • Local government budgeting is the topic for a League of Women Voters mini citizens academy from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Jan. 20, at the East Tennessee History Center. Speakers include current or former finance directors Kathy Hamilton, Jim York and Chris Caldwell.
  • Halls High Alumni Association is soliciting applications for the Alumni Hall of Fame. The deadline for submitting applications is March 31.
