Wood Group PLC had a work crew in Powell on Aug. 4, clearing trash from Emory Road to Beaver Creek at Collier Preserve.

Cecilia Petersen, central region finance manager for Wood, organized the work effort. She serves on the executive committee of the board of directors for Legacy Parks Foundation, which owns the property donated by Dr. Bob Collier. The 12-acre tract was part of the Moore and Collier family farm for several generations.

Petersen said the staff and friends volunteered to help because “we understand that to create a sustainable future, we have a responsibility to nurture and support our communities.” Working with Legacy Parks executive director Carol Evans, the volunteers removed invasive plants in addition to clearing a path to the creek.

Wood Group is a multinational energy services company with headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland, and a local office in Knoxville. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and has 55,000 employees worldwide. It was founded in 1982 by Ian Wood.
