Halls movie night a hit (Let’s do it again!)

A soft rain fell midway through the movie “Wonder” at the first Halls Family Movie Night at Clayton Park. It was OK. Everyone had a great time anyway.

The event was sponsored by Halls Proud and Knox County Parks & Recreation. Halls Proud members are advertisers with this website, Knox TN Today. The businesses buy logo links on the website, but we wanted to do more. A couple of late lunches at Marco’s Pizza sealed the deal. And the date was set for Saturday, July 21.

Jay Smelser, deputy director for recreation for Knox County, was our point of contact. Mike Donila, parks community relations manager, assisted. They cleared the calendar for each third Saturday in July, August and September. Now we’ve got to plan the events.

Sue Walker and Fran Nicole of Tindell Building Supplies staff the popcorn machine.

Ted and Carla Hatfield were wowed. “The local merchants sure came through,” Ted wrote in an email. “The crowd was outstanding with lots of young families.” Ted suggested that next time we issue umbrellas and show “Singing in the Rain.”

The businesses will meet next week to decide on the August event. We’ll promote it here.

Travis Woody, when we apologized for leaving Food City off of the event T-shirt, said, “Hey, we’re not doing this for recognition. We’re doing it for the community.”

That’s the Food City spirit and the spirit of all members of Halls Proud. We’ll be writing more about them and our events in upcoming posts.
