Farragut High School announces the addition of Kirstine Buchanan to the choral program as the new second director. Kirstine is a Knoxvillian, graduating from Bearden High School, the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in vocal music education, followed with a master’s of music in choral conducting from Mercer University.

Buchanan says she was inspired to teach by her middle school chorus teacher, Melissa Bumbach, “She created a classroom that was safe and centered around community. The community we built in her room helped us to make better music, and led to some of my longest and most meaningful friendships.”

Buchanan says she is thrilled to be returning to the Knoxville area, making music with the students of Farragut and working alongside Mitchell Moore, the other director of music.

She says, “Teaching music has the ability to bring people together from all walks of life, and it is a joy to be a part of that.”
