Tennessee topped Alabama in its opening game Thursday (06/01/23) at the Women’s College World Series, winning 10-5.

With the win, the Vols get the dubious honor of playing Oklahoma (57-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT. The Sooners hold a 49-game win streak and the No. 1 seed in this tournament. OU beat Stanford 2-0 on Thursday. The Saturday game will be televised and deserves a watch. After all, Oklahoma is headed to the SEC and we’ll get to play ’em every year.

Alabama and Stanford will play an elimination game on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Monica Abbott, Tennessee ace from 2004-07, threw out the first pitch for the Tennessee vs. Alabama game at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Abbott, 37, has retired from professional softball and lives in California.
