Paul L. Kelley Volunteer Academy is moving. Located at Knoxville Center mall since its inception, the academy has been supported by the Simon Youth Foundation. It’s a non-traditional high school which provides individualized instruction to dropouts.
Knox County school board will meet today (5/7) for a workshop and on Wednesday (5/9) for its voting session. Superintendent Bob Thomas is recommending that the Kelley Academy relocate to KCS-owned property at Lincoln Park Technology/Trade Center. Supporting documentation indicates Simon was unable to find space at West Town mall after selling Knoxville Center.
Thomas is requesting a $250,000 grant from Simon to cover the cost of relocation.
