  • Powell Republican Club will meet 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Shoney’s Emory Road at I-75. The speaker is Dean Harned, director of community outreach for county mayoral candidate Glenn Jacobs. All are invited.
  • Go Vote! for City Council District 4 (Fountain City and Northeast Knoxville) will be 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Milton Roberts Recreation Center, 5900 Asheville Highway. Free pizza and treats from Magpies Bakery. Games and activities for kids. Meet the candidates to replace term-limited Nick Della Volpe: Harry Tindell, Lauren Rider, Jack Knoxville, Dan Davis and Amy Parker.
  • Northwest Knox Business & Professional Association will meet noon Thursday, July 20, at Karns Senior Center. Cassie Kiestler will discuss the Karns community fair, set for Saturday, July 22, at Karns High School.
  • Big Clinch River Cleanup starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Museum of Appalachia, 2819 Andersonville Highway, Norris. The cleanup will end at 2 p.m. Volunteers are needed with boots, waders, kayaks and canoes. Info: click here.
  • Eclipse Party: Mayor Tim Burchett will host an eclipse viewing party 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, at The Cove at Concord Park. Those in attendance should see the total eclipse for about 90 seconds about 2:33 p.m. Knox County Schools will be closed Aug. 21. The party will feature music from RMS rock band from 11:30 to 1:30.   • Central High School Triennial Golden Grad Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Rothchild Event Center, 8807 Kingston Pike. Check in at 4 p.m. with dinner at 6. Reservation deadline is July 27, cost is $35. Registration form and more information from courtshea@aol.com. All who graduated from Central more than 50 years ago are welcome!
