Billboard comes down in Strickland Park

There’s a hole in Knox County’s budget.

The neighborhood group Town Hall East discovered that a billboard lease on county-owned land was about to renew for $250 per month. The sign pre-existed Knox County’s purchase of land for the Burlington branch library and Tank Strickland Park. The lease had been agreed to and was headed to the county commission agenda, probably to pass without debate.

Town Hall East said, “Wait!”

Debate ensued and Knox County decided to forgo the lease and the $250. Today, February 25, 2022, the billboard came down. Here’s a photo carousel:
