Jean Baird has spent more than four decades demonstrating what it means to put service above self. Now, the Rotary Club of Bearden is honoring her remarkable legacy with a scholarship that will carry her commitment to serving others into future generations.

The club has announced the establishment of the Jean Baird Servant Leadership Scholarship, recognizing a woman who helped change the history of the organization while dedicating more than 40 years to Rotary and the community.

Baird holds a special place in the club’s history as its first female member. Her decision to join helped open doors for other women to become involved in Rotary, take on leadership roles and make a difference through community service.

Throughout her membership, Baird has embodied Rotary’s guiding principle, “Service Above Self,” through her dedication to fellowship, leadership and helping others.

The newly established scholarship recognizes not only her years of service but also the values she has demonstrated: servant leadership, compassion and a belief in the potential of future generations.

“Jean’s legacy is woven into the history of our club and the lives she has touched,” said Lorna Keathley, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Bearden. “We are honored to establish this scholarship in her name and ensure that her spirit of service and leadership continues to inspire others for generations to come.”

For the club, the scholarship is more than an award bearing Baird’s name. It is a lasting tribute to someone whose example illustrates how one person’s dedication can influence an organization and a community for decades.

Founded in 1960, the Rotary Club of Bearden is part of Rotary International, a worldwide service organization with more than 1.4 million members. The club supports local charitable organizations, education, youth leadership and international service projects.

The Rotary Club of Bearden meets Fridays at noon at Bearden Banquet Hall in Knoxville and welcomes community members interested in fellowship, networking and service.
