October arrives with coffee, music, art, outdoor events and plenty of reasons to get out into the community.

Today is Thursday, Oct. 1, and East Tennessee is moving quickly into one of its busiest seasons. First Friday is tomorrow, fall events are filling the calendar, and several October traditions are just around the corner.

Today in History
• 1890: Congress established Yosemite National Park, protecting more than 1,500 square miles of mountains, valleys and forests in California.
• 1908: Henry Ford introduced the Model T, the automobile that would help transform transportation in America.
• 1971: Walt Disney World opened near Orlando, Florida.
