Week 3 of high school football brought region play, shutouts and a few down-to-the-wire finishes across Knoxville and East Tennessee.
The action started Thursday night with Central holding off West, 35-30. The Bobcats improved to 3-0 with the victory.
Powell also remained unbeaten, shutting out Halls, 24-0, in the Panthers’ first region game of the season. Powell moved to 3-0.
Maryville rolled past Bearden, 54-0, while Alcoa defeated previously unbeaten Gibbs, 49-21. Oak Ridge stayed perfect with a 56-7 victory over Lenoir City.
One of the night’s closest games came at Hardin Valley, where Bradley Central edged the Hawks, 43-40. Knoxville Catholic also won a thriller on the road, defeating Lipscomb Academy, 21-20. Webb came up one point short in another close one, falling to Silverdale, 27-26.

With three weeks in the books, Central, Powell and Oak Ridge are among the area teams still unbeaten, while region games are beginning to raise the stakes across East Tennessee.
Week 4 arrives next Friday with another full slate under the lights.
