To start today’s lesson in gastrointestinal goodness, we will be having a pop quiz. One question, only one correct answer. What is approximately 6 x 6 x 2, weighs 1.5 to 2.5 lbs., and is sticky? Google doesn’t know the answer. I checked!)

On the advice of a grandson, the Dining Duo made their way to Rocky Hill to eat at Scrambled Jakes, 7428 S. Northshore Dr. He had described the restaurant to us as “breakfast with class” and almost insisted that we try a Scrambler, biscuits and gravy, and a waffle.

Who are we to ignore good advice?

The two of us decided on one order of two biscuits and gravy, Jake’s Favorite Scrambler, and a Deep South Waffle. We could have fed both of our families and a few neighbors with the amount of delectable food we were served.

The old-fashioned term “cat-head” biscuits has never been truer. With sausage gravy, we should have thought about stopping there. But, no.

The Deep South Waffle was incredible, filled with corn, sausage, cheese, and onions, and topped with two eggs and a Chipotle sauce. We should have really stopped there. But, no.

Jake’s Favorite Scrambler was really over the top. Eggs, bacon, onions, topped with cheese, and served over potato casserole, was too die for! We can’t believe we didn’t stop there! But, no.

TIME OUT: The answer to today’s Pop-Quiz is… the Sin-O-Man Roll! And yes, we tried it also. Warm, with cream cheese icing and smelling like cinnamon heaven…Don’t ask, just be sure to try one.

Did we stop then? Yes… and in need of a very long nap.

All in all, Scrambled Jakes was one marvelous experience. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and if you are lucky enough to have Brett as your server, you will never be treated better.

Scrambled Jakes is open daily 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dining Duo is looking for the “hidden gem eateries “where the locals fill the breakfast and lunch hour; those local haunts tucked into the out-of-the-way or right on the way places missed in the hustle and bustle of the day. Please email us your recommendations at knoxtndiningduo@gmail.com.
