A friend recommended a South Knoxville restaurant, Nadas Empanada, the first empanada shop to open in Knoxville.
Owner Jamie Comstock, a native Puerto Rican, says she specializes in making empanadas from scratch, creating a variety of the tasty specialty which is one of the flavorful dishes passed down through her family heritage.
An empanada is a type of pastry that is filled with various ingredients such as meat, cheese, vegetables or fruits. It is a popular dish in many Latin American and Spanish-speaking countries. The dough is folded over the filling and sealed before being baked or fried. Empanadas can be served as a snack, appetizer or main course, often enjoyed with a dipping sauce or salsa.
According to Nadas Empanada, the menu has expanded beyond empanadas so drop in and give this unique cuisine a sampling. Jamie Comstock promises you won’t be disappointed.
Nadas Empanada is located at 5917 Chapman Highway at Colonial Road.
