Farragut Vice Mayor Ron Pinchok was installed as the town’s fourth mayor at Thursday’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting at town hall. Former Mayor Ralph McGill resigned last week and died on June 25.

State Sen. Richard Briggs swore in Pinchok as his son Jeff held the family Bible. It was a somber time, and Pinchok read a resolution memorializing Mayor McGill, a founder of the town. Pinchok will serve until a new mayor is elected and assumes office in about four months. The candidates are aldermen Bob Markli and Ron Williams.

Pinchok said he hopes to serve another term on the BMA. “I am honored to serve the town (as mayor) for this short period.”

Ron and Debbie Pinchok moved to Farragut in 1988. He was elected to the BMA in 2014 and was chosen by his peers as vice mayor in 2014. Previously, he had chaired both the Parks & Athletics Council and the Economic Development Advisory Committee.

His career was in marketing and sales. He worked for Xerox for three years after college and for Hallmark Cards until his retirement in 2010. Ron and Debbie have three married sons who grew up in the Farragut school system and graduated from the University of Tennessee.

Road update

Repair work on North Campbell Station Road is on schedule, according to Knox County Commissioner John Schoonmaker. He addressed the BMA during public forum. The $266,000 county project will be finished by the end of July, he said.

“I’m sorry that we had to shut down the road, but there was no other way.”

Schoonmaker said the contractor brought in a $1.3 million rig to drill 10 holes into solid rock to install an I-beam to support a retaining wall. The drilling equipment is so big it takes up both lanes of the road.

North Campbell Station is closed to through traffic north of Ridgeland Drive and Black Road. The project will correct a continual slope settlement in the southbound lane of Campbell Station ¼-mile north of Black Road. Message boards at Hardin Valley and Snyder Road will advise motorists. The official detour is Snyder Road to Lovell Road to Yarnell Road.
