In a public Facebook post, longtime Fountain City stalwart Rita’s Bakery announced it will close its doors for good at the end of May.
“Thank you for trusting us with your family’s life events since 1993. The time has now come for us to focus on our own family: Rita and our dad have taken care of us our whole lives and we are returning the honor. We’ll share bakery memories soon. Until then, please know:
1) This is absolutely our decision to retire from the bakery business. Baxter Properties has been a fantastic landlord and could not have been more responsive and helpful over the years;
2) We will be taking limited orders until we close our doors on May 28.”
Co-owner Monica Bailey responded via email with this: “It’s so hard to say goodbye, but our family needs us right now! “
