Stretch your mind with music from ‘unlikely’ composers

Jay FitzOur Town Faith

All are invited to a musical series with Maestro Brian Salesky.

On Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Arnstein Jewish Community Center, Salesky will discuss the music and history of significant Jewish composers who “made massive contributions to the golden age of 19th Century French Grand Opera.” Light refreshments will be served.

Titled “Unlikely Jewish Composers,” Salesky will discuss Fromental Elie Halevy, Jakob Eberst (aka Jacques Offenbach) and Jakob Liebmann Meyer Beer (aka Giacomo Meyerbeer).

From Feb. 1 through March 3, Salesky will offer an exhibition of photos and memorabilia about the composers in the Schwarzbart Gallery at the AJCC.

On Sunday, March 3, at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salesky’s Amadeus Chamber Ensemble will present a free concert, “French Opera Jewels,” with music by these composers.

In addition to his skills as a musician and an opera performer, Brian Salesky knows how to put on a good show. This series will be both informative and fun.
