A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored recently with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.
Monica Tymick, a registered nurse in surgery, was nominated by a patient’s family when she was working night shift on 5 Riverstone.
Here a portion of her recommendation:
“My husband came to Parkwest with a pulmonary embolism. All of the staff were very attentive during our stay at the hospital but our night nurse, Monica, was incredible.
“It was such a pleasure and such a relief to have been given a bright-spirited nurse on our side. Her enthusiasm helped significantly ease our anxiety, stress and concerns.
“… She effortlessly and effectively delivered information to us along the way. … She brought joy to our room many times while things felt heavy and we were scared. She has truly been a remarkable support to us and always ensured we were both as comfortable as possible all of the time.”
