Linda and Grace Sullivan were going to a Parnassus Book event in April owned by Anne Patchett, international best-selling author who wrote Tom Lake, among other titles. When planning the trip, Linda was alerted to an author event by a favorite broadcaster, Savannah Guthrie, from the Today Show.

Linda, a self-proclaimed super fan of the Today Show, secured tickets for her and Grace to attend the event, which included Guthrie’s new book and an up-close visit with the author.

To make the trip even more special, a girls’ night with their special group of mothers and daughters evolved into the whole group planning to travel with Linda and Grace to the Nashville Guthrie event.

Savannah Guthrie’s author event was held at the Belmont University Chapel with Hillary Scott from the country music group, Lady A, as the master of ceremonies.

Linda tells the story of Savannah G. and Lady A as acquaintances who became friends drawn together by faith, an example she has given her daughter Grace through the years: “The very best friends always point us back to Jesus.”

So, Savannah was a big fan of Lady A and Hillary Scott’s gospel songs, especially Beautiful Messes, which Guthrie told Scott when Scott was on the Today Show.

When Scott next visited the Today Show and Guthrie told her she was writing a book about faith, Scott said she would pray for her for 30 days and asked if there was anything else she could do for her. Guthrie said she could come to the end of her book tour in Nashville, so she did.

Linda said the entire event was inspirational, but the end was quite dramatic as Scott’s husband walked out with his guitar and she performed Beautiful Messes and Eyes Upon Jesus, asking everyone to sing along.

Linda says she and her friends felt like their group was supposed to be there because they are faithful friends who carry each other in prayer all the time.

Personalizing lips at Lip Lab

The group had some crazy fun time in addition to the emotionally rewarding book event. They went to the Lip Lab and made their own lipsticks, naming them and bringing home their own personalized supply! Knox the Fox was a bit disappointed there was not a rabbit flavor but he doesn’t really have lips anyway.
