Bye, bye ’23

Sandra ClarkLet's Talk

The New Year is a time for optimism. A fresh start. A redo.

For Knox Countians, it’s a year of elections: March 5 – county primary; Aug 1 – county general, state primary; Nov. 5 – state and federal general election. We’ll get a new property assessor, a new look on school board, changes on county commission as John Schoonmaker, Richie Beeler, Dasha Lundy, Kyle Ward and Carson Dailey leave through choice or term limits.

Tennesseans have the General Assembly to anticipate. What will they think of next? The House Super Majority shot themselves in both feet in ’23. They will seek out other body parts for ’24.

Nationally, we’ll elect a president and Congress. Here’s hoping we select wisdom over showboats; compassion over bloodlust; and leaders who remember Ben Franklin’s statement upon signing the Declaration of Independence: “We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”

Notes

Tom King is off this week and Betty Bean will return Thursday, Jan. 11.

Good health and happiness in 2024.

Go Vols! Beat Iowa.
