Knoxville Children’s Theatre (KCT) will hold auditions on Monday, February 5, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at KCT, 109 E. Churchwell Avenue for the upcoming production of Babe, the Sheep Pig. Auditions are by appointment only: Audition Request Form

There are at least 15 available roles, including roles for both boys and girls with at least three roles for actors making their KCT debut. The minimum age to audition is 8 years old, and the maximum age is 16.

So, what does an audition look and sound like?

The KCT website asks auditionees to prepare a one-minute monologue from a play or novel. The monologue should express comic emotion and a theatrical level of volume and expression.

Auditionees need to bring their calendars because if they are chosen for the cast, they will be asked to list all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule and expected to attend most rehearsals.

Rehearsals will begin on or around February 18 continuing through Thursday, April 4, on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings with some exceptions.

What is Babe, the Sheep Pig?

Obviously, it is a comedy! Babe wants to fit in on the farm but also wants to achieve a better destiny for himself. There are other plans for his future when he is sent to a farm and the farmer’s wife sees “ham” in her future. The story unfolds as a friend on the farm helps Babe avoid a nasty, or “tasty” ending.

You may have seen this story in film version, Babe, that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 1996 along with seven other nominations.
