Want to watch a classic 1980s adventure movie in a cool cave? Check this out today.

Historic Cherokee Caverns, 8524 Oak Ridge Highway, will present “The Goonies” at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, and at 11 a.m., 1:30, 4, 6:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday, June 1. Admission is $10 for those age 5 and older (younger kids admitted free).

“The Goonies” was based on a story by Steven Spielberg and stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Jeff Cohen. It’s about a group of misfit kids who discover an ancient map and set out to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure.

The Whidby family is finally ready to open Cherokee Caverns to the public after extensive damage to the cave paths and electrical system from February’s flooding. Visitors will be able to tour the cave before and after each showing. (And that’s worth the price of admission.)

Tony’s Grill food truck will be selling food and popcorn, and Candy by Ro will offer homemade treats. Chairs will be provided, but attendees can bring their own camp chair. The movie will be shown inside the cave, where the temperature is a consistent 58 degrees year-round. Bring a jacket. Proceeds benefit the cave.
