Warmer weather gets crews outside

New signs went up at Campbell Station and Yarnell roads to increase awareness of upcoming changes at the intersection. Studies are underway to see what else can be done to make that intersection safer.

We had a crew padding a guardrail on Northshore, just west of the roundabout. Proper set-up at the ends of guardrails are important to ensuring they work correctly in the event of a crash.

Part of our paving crew is putting in a road for a neighborhood. This isn’t something we normally do, but a contractor went bankrupt and left several landowners without a way to get to and from those sites. We used the bond money that contractors are required to pay us upfront, in case something like this happens, to cover the cost of the road.

The Stormwater Team met with Knox County Schools to discuss how to maintain detention ponds. Our schools host several different types of drainage systems, and Knox County is dedicated to setting a good maintenance example.

We had a crew out excavating a lot in District 3. This lot was a health and safety hazard to the community.

We also had a crew in District 2 cleaning a property and boarding up a house that posed a health and safety risk.

This past weekend, the Stormwater Team participated in the Dogwood Arts House and Garden Show. Knox County partnered with the Water Quality Forum to spread the word that clean river water starts at home. They had a wonderful time and look forward to next year’s show.

Here are some photos from last week’s work around the county:
