Ty Rodriques makes U.S. Junior National Gymnastics team

Susan EspirituFarragut, Our Town Youth

Farragut High School junior Ty Rodriques is a special young man in many ways, but his gymnastics achievements tell a story of what he has accomplished through work ethic and determination that began at 5 years old.

To be a super athlete in any sport requires dedication to the skills required by the particular sport, but I don’t believe the general population realizes the dedication and years of sacrifices required to be a top-level gymnast.

Ty competed in the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships Junior Men 16 events in San Jose, California.

He had an outstanding performance earning a national championship against a 16-man field in the vault competition and placing third overall in the six main events of floor, pommel, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar!

Ty Rodriques holds his plaque that states: “2023-2024 Men’s Junior National Team Member”

As a result of his overall performance, Ty Rodriques earned a spot on the U.S. Junior National team and will start practicing in Colorado in September with competitions to begin in December.

Ty says of his accomplishment:

“I’m extremely thankful for even just the opportunity to compete at such a high level meet as this one. And then securing a spot on National Team is absolutely a dream come true; a dream I’ve been pursuing since the age of 5. Even though I’ve fallen short of some of my personal goals in the past few years, those struggles make this accomplishment all the sweeter.

“I couldn’t have gotten here without my parents and everything they’ve sacrificed, my coach for all the hours he’s invested in me, and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for blessing me with everything.

“Now, back to work at the gym where I’m hoping to earn a bid to represent my coach and my nation internationally.”

We will continue to follow Ty on this this incredible journey @ty.r_gymnast2025
