Shay Siler to Sequoyah Elementary

Shay Siler is principal of Sequoyah Elementary School effective July 2021. She replaces Alisha Hinton, who has taken a job with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching. NIET is a national nonprofit that partners with school districts and states to provide coaching, training and professional development for instruction and leadership.

Siler joined Knox County Schools in 2009 as an assistant principal at Carter Elementary School. She previously worked as a teacher in South Carolina and a teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal in North Carolina. She was part of the Leadership Academy in 2011 and placed at Beaumont Magnet Academy as an assistant principal. In 2012, she was named principal of Carter Elementary, and in 2017 named principal of Karns Elementary, where she currently serves.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the College of Charleston, as well as a master’s degree in education and an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision, both from the University of Tennessee.
