Row, row, row your boat

Christopher RobinOur Town Arts

This image was taken above Lake Bled in the Julian Alps of Slovenia. We were visiting the castle overlooking the town and lake. This boat was making its way toward Bled Island with its pilgrimage church built in the 17th century and dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.

It was midafternoon and generally a terrible time to photograph. The sun reflected bright over exposed spots on the water or what photographers call highlights. These normally kill an image but in this case these reflections become an important part making it look like the boat is rowing toward stars. Every now and then a mistake can make a more interesting photograph.
