In a race that organizer Diane Wilkerson called “uphill both ways,” the inaugural Powell Lions Club 5K was held June 3. The course started and ended at OneLife Church in Powell Place shopping center.
First place overall went to Macy Caldwell, 13, of Lafollette, who ran the 3.1-mile course in 23:03 for a pace of 7:25. A student at J. Frank White Academy in Harrogate, Macy has been running since third grade.
Next came Daniel Dougherty, 31, of Corryton, who finished in 25:04. Dougherty said he’s been training since January, but otherwise has not run since high school.
