Painting outdoors means happy artist, paintbrush

Here’s the church, there is the steeple, open the door and

Painted en plein air, this old church has seen better days in the Riverdale Community in East Knox County. The vines twist about and obscure the windows leaving the steeple to gleam in the sun. The mystery intrigued me, wondering what could be inside now. Imagine the hum of hymns vibrating this old church: Did they host picnics under the shade trees? Did ladies all wear hats? Were the children shoeless as the nearby river hosted baptisms?

Putting myself in the footsteps of those headed to worship, it was a warm spring day with cool grass beneath MY bare feet. This made me and my paintbrush happy.

Where are the people?

This 11×14 painting can be seen during the month of August at Broadway Studio and Gallery, 1127 Broadway, as part of the Tuesday Painters – Plein Air Show, open Fridays and Saturdays.  We are a group of artists that choose a different location to paint together each Tuesday.
