New multi-use trail added at Loyston Point

To increase recreation opportunities in the region, the Tennessee Valley Authority has opened a new 6.7-mile, multi-use trail at Loyston Point Recreation Area on Norris Reservoir in Andersonville.

The twisty singletrack trail is designed with natural elevation changes and exposed rocks and roots to provide moderate challenges for hikers and bikers who want more adventure. Located 30 minutes north of Knoxville, TVA’s Loyston Point Recreational Area provides year-round hiking, biking, boat ramp, lake swimming, camping, and RV hook-ups.

Over the past six years, TVA has invested over $750,000 in the family-friendly recreation area to create over 23 miles of trail sectioned into smaller, connected trails, making the area suitable for leisurely walks or endurance bike rides. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet. TVA is a partner of Leave No Trace and asks that visitors follow Leave No Trace practices, including picking up after pets.

The Appalachian Mountain Bike Club helps with day-to-day maintenance of the Loyston trail system. For more information go here.
