Mysteries thrill Linda Sullivan this week

I love to watch a good mystery movie and listening to an audio mystery book is even better! These two recommendations from our book whisperer, Linda Sullivan, will keep you engrossed in the plot from beginning to end and yes, I highly recommend the audio versions!

Linda’s first recommendation, The Silent Patient, written by Alex Michaelides, is the author’s debut novel. Michaelides studied English literature at Cambridge University, but more intriguingly, he studied psychotherapy for three years, and worked for two years at a secure unit for young adults. These experiences provided material and inspiration for this novel.

Linda says, “You know the one. You MUST find out whodunit, but you can’t read fast enough. And then, you read the shocking plot twist sentence or paragraph. This is one of those books.

“I stayed awake into the night to finish The Silent Patient. It took me awhile to fall asleep, because I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen if the story continued. Still grappling with it when I think about the story.”

Linda’s second recommendation this week is The Golden Couple by author pair Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. The authors previously wrote The Wife Between Us together and have also several solo novels between them.

Linda says of The Golden Couple, “It had been on my shelf for a while. After my daughter finished the book at the beach, she insisted it be moved to the top of the list. Finally, I made room in my reading life after she asked for the 100th time if I’d read The Golden Couple yet.

“WHY DID I WAIT?!?!

“Matthew and Marissa live a charmed life. Matthew isn’t expecting to be blindsided, when Marissa insists they attend couples therapy. Avery is their unconventional counselor. After having her license revoked, Avery isn’t constrained by therapy rules and treats her patients in 10 steps. (Very interesting theories btw)

“The story is told in Marissa’s and Avery’s voices, and the reader is introduced to the other characters from their perspectives. I don’t want to give away more of the plot, so there’s only one more thing. Find this book and read it! Quickly! Don’t wait like I did.”

Remember: Knox County Online Library to search for Linda’s recommendations each week.
