Linda Sullivan finds must-read mysteries

Susan EspirituOur Town Readers

Our book whisperer, Linda Sullivan, goes the mystery route this week with her recommendations. If you enjoy suspense and intrigue, mysteries will keep you engaged, guessing until the very end as you escape reality and explore the unknown.

Author: Grace D Li

Linda’s first recommendation this week: Portrait of a Thief

Linda’s teaser, “Have you ever wondered how the museums of the world have all the spectacular art on display? This story will make you wander the exhibits in a different way. Also, do you love Fast and Furious or Oceans 11, 12, 13? If you answered yes, then read this one!”

It’s commonly joked that a doctor’s handwriting resembles a secret code. The author of A Portrait of a Thief is indeed a doctor writing in secret code. Grace D Li, a graduate of Duke where she studied biology and creative writing, is now attending medical school at Stanford. Portrait of a Thief is her debut novel inspired by the true story of Chinese art disappearing from Western museums.

Also, when you watch the upcoming series on Netflix, remember Linda told you to read the book.

Author: Julie Clark

Linda’s choice 2 this week: The Last Flight:

Two women. Two Flights. One last chance to disappear.

Linda teases: “This is suspense and a dual narrative with two desperate women exchanging places in an airport. Can you ever really leave everything behind when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder?”

Excerpt from the book: “I’m serious, all it takes is one tiny thread connecting your new life to your old one and it’ll all fall apart.” His dark eyes latched onto mine and held. “You can never go back. Not once. Not in any way, ever.”

Julie Clark is a New York Times bestselling author with her debut book, The Ones We Choose optioned for television. This book, The Last Flight, has earned top awards from reviewers and Best Book of 2020 by Amazon Editors and Apple Books.
