Linda discovers two whodunit crime novels

Our book whisperer, Linda Sullivan, has recommendations this week that move us from last week’s relaxed heartwarming romantic comedies to edge-of-our-seat crime fiction novels. Megan Goldin, author of our crime fiction books for this week, worked as a correspondent for Reuters and other media outlets where she covered war, peace and international terrorism in the Middle East and Asia. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she raises three sons and fosters Labrador puppies learning to be guide dogs.

Linda’s first recommendation is The Night Swim, Goldin’s third novel, and first book in her Rachel Krall series with Linda’s teaser:

“Do you like Cold Case Files? If you answered yes, then read. It is a thriller!

“Protagonist Rachel Krall, a true crime podcaster investigates a notorious rape trial in a small American town. The town’s golden boy has been accused of raping the popular granddaughter of the town’s legendary police chief. The resultant case has divided both the town and the country, and many are eager to see how the hearing unfolds, but how does a cold case tie into the current case? Read it and find out.”

Linda’s second recommendation is Dark Corners, Megan Goldin’s second in her Rachel Krall series.

Linda says, “If you read The Night Swim, you’ll love it! Rachel returns in Dark Corners.
“Rachel is a journalist and true crime podcaster who needs a break after the last job in The Night Swim, but when the FBI calls in the middle of the night and requests you come to Florida, you go.

“A social media influencer is missing. An inmate she visited a few days ago is being released from prison in two days. The inmate mentioned Rachel during the meeting, and the FBI keeps hitting dead ends. The only clue the FBI has: a message handed between the two requesting that the missing star seek out Rachel.
“What are the connections? Read to find out!”
