Knox County Schools will celebrate the receipt of Student Success Grants worth $225,000 during an event at Cedar Bluff Elementary School on March 10.

The grants are being provided by a partnership between United Way, Knox Education Foundation and Knox County Commission.

The largest portion of the funding, $210,000, will go to student-focused initiatives at every district school:

  • Elementary schools will receive funding for literacy and numeracy supports and professional development for teachers and staff.
  • Middle school funding will support student transitions to 6th grade and 9th grade; math and literacy supports; and professional development.
  • High school funding will support post-secondary readiness; student transitions to 9th grade or post-secondary education; literacy and Algebra 1 supports; and professional development.

Grant funding will also be provided to the KCS Teacher Supply Depot ($10,000) and the KCS Clothing Center ($5,000).

“The support of community partners is an essential part of our educational mission,” said Superintendent Bob Thomas. “United Way, Knox Education Foundation, Mayor Glenn Jacobs and the Knox County Commission are committed to the success of our students, teachers and schools, and I am thankful for this generous gift.”
