Who let the dogs out?

You may have noticed an abundance of agile-looking dogs downtown. This week, Knoxville is hosting the world’s premier canine aquatics championships: DockDogs. For three days, spectators are welcome to attend and watch competitions in three disciplines at the Convention Center: Big Air, the long jump; Extreme Vertical, the high jump; and Speed Retrieve, a timed event where the dog retrieves a suspended toy. These events are great for dogs that love to run, jump and swim. All breeds, any mix, any size are welcome to register, participate and join the elite group of Dock Diving family.

While you are downtown taking it all in, visit the Petsafe Downtown dog park and test your pup’s skills on the agility components. The downtown park offers our city pups a place to roam leash-free with other canine buddies. There are separate sections for small and large dogs, ramps and exercise stations, dog and human water fountains, plus a few benches for the two-legged folks.

If your pup needs some practice swimming, take a ride to the dog park at Concord Park featuring a dock with access to the river where your dog can jump in, retrieve and practice their long jump.

If you can’t make it to the competition, it will be a beautiful weekend to get out and play with your furry friend at any of the 11 dog parks in Knoxville and the surrounding area.
