Enjoy holiday lights in Fountain City

The public is invited to Historic Gibbs Drive in Fountain City to enjoy the holiday light displays all up and down the street. Monty Howard, co-chair of the neighborhood association, said the lights will be up through New Year’s Day.

“We have 52 houses on the street, and 42 of them have lights and other decorations,” Howard said. “We’d love for people to come check them out. They can drive through or park and enjoy a walk through the neighborhood.”

While the holiday trimmings will be up for two more weeks, visitors on Saturday, Dec. 18, can cast votes for their favorites from 5-7 p.m. Apparently the competition between these friendly neighbors is fierce. The categories are:

  • Merry and Bright
  • Winter Wonderland
  • Best Overall

But where to leave that ballot? Without giving away a personal address, there will be a box at the home Howard shares with his wife, Kristina. It’s probably pretty easy to spot for most as it had a starring role in Kelsea Ballerini’s award-winning “Half of My Hometown” video.

“It’s one thing to have a video shot at your house,” Howard said. “It’s a whole other thing for it to win Video of the Year.”

He encourages everyone to cast a vote, and to keep an eye out for Santa Claus up on a chimney.
