Byington-Solway FFA brings home awards

The Byington-Solway Chapter of Future Farmers of America had a strong performance at the state organization’s recent convention March 27-30 in Gatlinburg.

Three students from Karns High School earned their Chapter FFA Degrees; Chapter President Riley Powell, Chapter Vice President Savannah Young and Chapter Treasurer Victoria Cooper.

In addition, Savannah Young was named the Agriculture Student of the Year for 2022 at Byington-Solway and Riley Powell was awarded a Leadership Award for her service as president to the chapter.

The chapter itself earned the State Superior Chapter award, given to chapters that meet chapter quality standards. The chapter also took home the Bronze PLOW (Pass Literacy Onward) award for completing 30 hours of personal reading beyond the regular academic requirements and promoting literacy in the classroom.

The chapter was also awarded the 10% Membership Increase Award for their efforts in bringing in new members to the chapter. The Byington-Solway Chapter serves students from Karns, Hardin Valley, and Powell high schools.

Advisor is Joshua Cameron, CASE certified and teacher of agriculture education.
