Are you ready for your close-up?

Getting out in the winter to photograph is an excellent idea. Winter is also a time to try some new things indoors with a camera.

“Image Makers” was created with a technique called light painting. My camera was on a tripod and focused on this display from a collection of family cameras. In a totally dark room, I experimented with long exposures while “painting” various parts of the display using a penlight. The camera forgets the quick movements of my arm in front of the lens but remembers the brighter spots where light shown for a second or two.

I have seen light painting done on small fishing lures, barns and even some huge rock structures in Monument Valley. The possibilities are endless.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
