A city snowscape

A few weeks ago, I encouraged getting out to discover what winter has to offer a photographer. I hope some of you took advantage of the two snows we had since then. Here is one of my favorite images taken during a snow squall in downtown Knoxville.

As it started snowing, I left my desk with no coat, no tripod, and no specific subject in mind. Very large snowflakes streaking across the Tennessee Theater sign caught my attention. To show motion, I used a 1/25 second exposure to get the result I was after. “Picture” me in the snow with an umbrella locked in my elbow while holding the camera steady against a light pole. It had to look a little weird but whatever it takes to get the shot.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
