Eagle Fest celebrates new Gibbs Middle School

Haley GuidryFeature, Northeast Knox

Students and their families gathered at the new Gibbs Middle School to explore the facilities and to have a bit of fun. Eagle Fest 2018 was held on Aug. 3, allowing students to become acquainted with their new classrooms and their soon-to-be teachers.

Several tents were set up outside of the school where students could get snow cones, free hot dogs, or win prizes. Inside, there were tables offering various Gibbs T-shirts and other items to support school spirit.

Once inside, students were able to walk around the gymnasium, the auditorium, the classrooms and more. Signs were set up for the respective grade levels so that students could find out exactly where they would be spending the upcoming school year.

The most popular attraction of the evening, which gained the most attention from both students and parents alike, was the bald eagle that was brought in from Dollywood. People looked on in amazement as the eagle spread its massive wings.

Gibbs Middle School will be opening for classes for the first time Wednesday, Aug. 8.
