Does a library hop like a bunny or a bear?

Mary Pom ClaiborneFountain City, Our Town Youth

With more than 100 programs every month, we’re hopping at the Library these days. Spanning from storytimes for kiddos to genealogy workshops, cookbook clubs for the chefs among us to Stem workshops for students, there’s something for everyone. If crafts are your thing, we’ve got dozens of ways to feed your creative soul. Try your hand at a Gobble ‘til you Wobble Turkey Craft or making a Wine Bottle Scarecrow.

We’re excited about the new exhibition opening at the East Tennessee History Center on Saturday. I wrote about it last week in this space. Lights! Camera! East Tennessee! chronicles Knoxville’s contributions to film from early promotion of Thomas Edison’s Kinetoscope in 1895 to the glamour of Hollywood. The Exhibition opens on Friday, November 19, and runs through July 3. This Saturday, join Laura Still of Knoxville Walking Tours as she leads a tour revisiting our movie house history and follows in the footsteps of some of our hometown A-listers who have spent time in downtown Knoxville and walked the red carpet in Hollywood. (Registration required).

Also, this Saturday, the Fountain City Branch is hosting their third Friends of the Library’s Used Book Sale. Lots of gift quality books and special priced books are available for both children and adults. Always a bargain, but if you want to go for the basement bargain deals, the $5 bag sale is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. You can find a little bit of everything there: music CDs and sheet music, Christmas fiction, collectible American Rifleman magazines from the ‘60s and ‘70s, and some cookbooks just in time for the big day.

We want to remind you that you can check out admission and tickets to dozens of cultural institutions through our Explorer Pass program. Clarence Brown Theatre recently joined us with passes to their annual production of A Christmas Carol. It’s worth reserving tickets before they get gobbled up!

If you need to get out for a good walk, we recommend one of our new storybook trails. There’s nothing better than a little fresh air and a delightful book.

And finally, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to transition to a new management system. You won’t notice much difference, but you will have to change your password.
