About 20 volunteers hit the trails at House Mountain Park Oct. 17, for a workday to perform much-needed repairs on the park.

The Knox County park has been adopted by Mast General Store through the Adopt-A-Park program, which encourages organizations to help care for and maintain county parks and greenways.

The gathered volunteers helped rebuild trail sections on House Mountain, including rebuilding a rock wall and step area on the second switchback and fencing off an eroded section of trail.

Mike Donila of Knox County Parks and Recreation thanked everyone who helped with the workday, saying that all the help got the projects done sooner than expected.

“Volunteers just play an absolute key role in what we do,” he said.

Another House Mountain workday is being planned for early 2018, with details to be announced as soon as the day is scheduled.
