Visit Farragut has won a 2020 Award of Excellence from the Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council for a dining guide brochure that was distributed during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was part of the “Doors are Opening” marketing campaign that the tourism department implemented at the request of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to address the needs of local businesses.

Visit Farragut received the Pivot Award for the dining guide, which provides information about services offered by local restaurants, like take-out, delivery or outdoor seating. It is distributed through area hotels and businesses, and a digital version is available at VisitFarragut.org.

Like many other tourism organizations, Visit Farragut’s objective in 2020 was helping businesses stay afloat rather than encouraging travel.

“Visit Farragut changed its focus to supporting our local businesses, restaurants, hotels and citizens during the pandemic. The dining guide is now a valuable resource to support our local economy and beyond,” says Karen Tindal, tourism coordinator.

The Excellence in Tourism awards honor events, festivals, marketing projects and individuals that have enhanced and increased tourism’s positive economic impact on the 16-counties region. The awards were handed out at the recent METTC annual board retreat on April 28.

Wendy Smith is the marketing and public relations coordinator for the town of Farragut.
