Summer internships: Fun not in the sun

As the summer stretches out before us, many look forward to the opportunity to rest, relax and vacation with family. For an intern, the summer is an opportunity to get real world experience in the banking industry and create lasting professional relationships.

Each summer, First Horizon hosts interns to serve in various lines of business including private banking, trust and community relations.

The 9-week paid internship involves a final project and presentation given to local executives. This robust curriculum also includes job shadowing, community service projects and a nonprofit volunteer day.

Giving back to our community is such a big part of being a First Horizon associate, therefore we want to ensure these habits are instilled early on in these young leaders’ careers.

This summer the interns were tasked with coordinating the Knox County Library’s Read City USA challenge. We encouraged our associates to read a thousand hours collectively and the interns were leading the charge for us internally, including logging associate hours and hosting a banker book swap.

While the summer will be over before we know it, we hope our summer interns carry the lessons they’ve learned with them always.
