The Knox County Board of Education this evening selected Dr. Jon Rysewyk as the next superintendent of Knox County Schools.
Rysewyk is assistant superintendent and chief academic officer of Knox County Schools, positions he has held since 2017. He previously served as director of Emerald Academy, as well as executive director of innovation and school improvement and supervisor of secondary education, both for Knox County Schools. He has eight years of experience in school administration and five years as an educator.
A resident of the Mascot community, his children attend public schools. His older daughter is a freshman at the University of Tennessee and his younger daughter attends Central High School.

“Knox County is my home, and I am very excited for the chance to lead this amazing school district,” said Rysewyk. “I will work every day to make sure that all students receive the instruction and support they need for success after high school, and to make sure that students are at the center of every decision we make. I am grateful to the Board of Education for this incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Details of Rysewyk’s contract are expected to be discussed at the Board of Education’s meeting in March.
“Dr. Rysewyk is a strong and experienced leader who has been highly effective as our district’s top academic executive,” said Board of Education chair Kristi Kristy. “I have always admired his work on behalf of students, teachers and families. Throughout the interview process, I was impressed with the vision he shared and his willingness to use data to inform key decisions. I believe he is the perfect person to lead our district, and I look forward to working with him in the future.
