Pollinator garden at Powell Station Park

Powell Station Park is already a great place for people. Now students at Powell High School are making it a great place for bees and butterflies as well.

The PHS Environmental Club and its teacher/advisor Mary Eisenhauer planted several bushes and flowers to attract pollinators. Roy Arthur, watershed coordinator for Knox County, assisted with a grant to purchase the materials. Last year, students planted and mulched a wet weather garden at the park to filter storm water running toward Beaver Creek.

Ruth Anne Hanahan, senior research associate, Tennessee Water Resources Research Center at UT, was onsite too, wearing work boots and pushing wheel barrels of mulch.
